Understanding ADHD
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how your brain manages attention, activity levels, and impulse control. It’s not a character flaw or lack of effort—it’s a real difference in how your brain works.
Common symptoms of ADHD can impact:
- Academic or work performance
- Relationships and social interactions
- Daily organization and time management
- Emotional regulation and self-esteem
- Financial management and decision-making

Frequently Asked Questions
What are some common signs of ADHD?
Signs of ADHD vary by person, but our psychologists commonly see:
Inattention:
- Difficulty staying focused or completing tasks
- Frequently losing items or forgetting appointments
- Easily distracted by thoughts or surroundings
- Avoiding tasks requiring sustained mental effort
Hyperactivity:
- Feeling restless or constantly “on the go”
- Difficulty sitting still or staying quiet
- Excessive talking or fidgeting
Impulsivity:
- Making hasty decisions without considering consequences
- Interrupting others or difficulty waiting your turn
- Impulsive spending or risk-taking behaviors
Important: Everyone experiences some of these occasionally. ADHD is diagnosed when these signs significantly interfere with daily life across multiple settings and have been present since childhood. Our comprehensive assessment can determine if what you’re experiencing is ADHD.
What if the results show I don’t have ADHD?
Our ADHD psychologists in Edmonton will still provide valuable insights into your mental health functioning and identify what might be causing your challenges, with recommendations for support.
Do I need a doctors referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with our team.
Will this help with accessing medication?
Yes, we can provide a detailed letter to your doctor with our findings and recommendations if medication is something you’d like to explore.
What ages do you assess?
We assess children (6+), teens, and adults. Each assessment is tailored to the appropriate age group. Note that more comprehensive psycho-educational assessments are recommended for children and teens as this will provide more information to enhance their functioning and learning at school. However, we can start with an ADHD screen if that is the primary area of concern.
