What Is a Pre-Employment Assessment?
A pre-employment psychological assessment uses validated, standardized tools to evaluate a candidate’s cognitive abilities, personality traits, and decision-making style. Employers use these assessments to build strong, effective teams in roles where judgement and reliability matter most.

Common Pre-Employment Tests
- Cognitive Ability – Measure critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Personality and Behaviour – Evaluate behavioural traits and how they align with the role’s demands.
- Situational Judgement Tests (SJTs) – Assess decision-making in realistic hypothetical job scenarios.
- Skills – Evaluate proficiency in specific, job-related tasks.
- Integrity – Measure values, ethical standards, and consistency in high-pressure situations.

How to Prepare
- Learn about the role so you know what skills may be highlighted.
- Take practice tests for cognitive or aptitude assessments.
- Rest well the night before your assessment.
- Be honest in your responses. Assessments are designed to reflect who you are, and authentic answers lead to the most accurate results.
- Remember, this process is about fit, not failure.
