Couples Counselling
Relationships can be deeply fulfilling—but they can also be challenging. Communication issues, unmet needs, and life transitions can create distance or conflict between partners over time. Whether you’re facing ongoing struggles or simply want to feel closer again, it’s okay to seek support.
At Kells Psychology, we offer couples counselling to help partners reconnect, communicate more effectively, and strengthen their relationship. Our experienced therapists provide a safe, neutral space where both voices are heard and meaningful change can begin.

What to Expect in Couples Counselling?
Couples counselling sessions are collaborative and respectful. Your therapist will help partners feel heard and create a space where it’s safe to explore hard conversations. We focus on understanding each person’s perspective and building tools that can strengthen your relationship beyond the therapy room.
While sessions are typically weekly or biweekly, they can be tailored and scheduled to fit your needs and goals. Some couples attend for a few sessions to work through a specific issue, while others choose longer-term support.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do we have to be in crisis to attend couples counselling?
Not at all. While some couples come to therapy during a rough patch, many seek support proactively to strengthen communication, work through long-standing issues, or grow closer. Therapy can be helpful at any stage of a relationship.
What if one of us is more open to therapy than the other?
That’s very common. It’s okay to feel hesitant or unsure; your therapist will work to create a space where partners feel respected, heard, and comfortable moving at their own pace.
Is couples counselling suitable for all types of relationships?
Yes. We welcome couples of all backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and relationship structures. Whether you’re dating, married, engaged, long-term partners, or in a polyamorous or non-traditional relationship, our therapists are here to support you.
How many sessions will we need?
It varies. Some couples attend for a few sessions to work through a specific issue, while others find ongoing support helpful. Your therapist will collaborate with you to set goals and check in regularly about progress.
Will the therapist take sides?
No. Our therapists are trained to remain neutral and supportive of both partners. Their role is to help each person feel safe and heard while guiding the relationship toward greater understanding and healthier patterns.
Can the same therapist see us for both couples and individual counselling?
No. Your couples’ therapist may choose to have a few sessions with each of you individually, but the goal of these sessions will still be to advance you as a couple and not to engage in individual therapy. To maintain neutrality and avoid conflicts of interest, it’s generally recommended that couples work with a separate therapist for individual therapy. If needed, we can help coordinate care within our clinic.
